Uganda Launches Mini Hydro Power Project

Key Figures & Findings: Uganda has launched a $13 million mini hydropower project in Mitooma District, aiming to electrify 71,081 households and benefit 376,729 people. The project, commissioned by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, was announced alongside Energy Ministers Ruth Nankabirwa and Phiona Nyamutoro. It also aims to support 2,300 small and medium enterprises (SMEs), boosting electricity access in Kasese, Bushenyi, Hoima, Kabarole, Bunyangabu, and Bundibugyo districts.
Statistics & Insights: The project, which covers 288 kilometers, is expected to enhance grid reliability and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. It is part of Uganda’s push to increase rural electrification and industrial development.
