Uganda Launches Solar Water Project
Key Figures & Findings: Uganda's Local Government Minister Raphael Magyezi has inaugurated a solar-powered water project in Bukalango, Wakiso District, aimed at ensuring clean and affordable water access. Supported by the United Alliance for Social Development Goals (UnASDG), this $32,000 initiative underscores Uganda’s commitment to climate resilience and sustainable development. UnASDG, known for its work in advancing social and environmental sustainability, highlights that the new solar infrastructure will reduce water scarcity, support local jobs, and contribute to healthier communities.
Statistics & Insights: The water project’s infrastructure includes eight 550-watt solar panels powering a pump that supplies 5,000 liters per hour. The installation aligns with Uganda's Parish Development Model, aiming to uplift rural areas by improving essential services.
Future Implications: This pilot project, if deemed successful, could expand in early 2025 to 10 additional sites across Wakiso, Mukono, and Mpigi districts, potentially improving water reliability and contributing to regional economic stability.
