UK-Backed Centre to Tackle Africa’s Energy Issues

Key Figures & Findings:
The £3.5 million Circular Economy Powered Renewable Energy Centre (CEPREC) has been launched to tackle Africa’s growing energy and e-waste challenges. Funded by the UK Government’s £1 billion Ayrton Fund, CEPREC brings together over 30 stakeholders from government, academia, and industry across the UK and sub-Saharan Africa. The centre will focus on developing circular microgrids, waste-to-energy solutions, and sustainable power initiatives to drive economic transformation and energy resilience.
Statistics & Insights:
Initially operating in Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Namibia, and Rwanda, CEPREC aims to integrate circular economy principles into Africa’s energy sector. Its research will support renewable energy adoption and localized manufacturing of clean technology solutions.
Future Implications:
If successful, CEPREC could expand across Africa, strengthening energy security and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. And also set new benchmarks for sustainable energy research and implementation.
