Zambia’s Largest Mining Microgrid Unveiled

Key Figures & Findings: SANY Silicon Energy a company focused on the research, development, and production of solar energy technologies, including silicon wafers, solar cells, and modules, has launched the Zambia Ruida Mining Microgrid Power Project, the largest hybrid "Solar + Storage + Diesel" microgrid for mining in Africa. This project integrates a 13 MWp solar PV system, a 39 MWh battery energy storage system, and a diesel generator for reliable power supply. SANY completed the project in just four months, demonstrating resilience, and overcoming Zambia’s challenging topography and underdeveloped infrastructure. The initiative underscores SANY’s dedication to global green energy transformation, ensuring energy self-sufficiency for mining operations.

Insights: The hybrid system offers a stable, efficient energy supply while reducing reliance on conventional energy sources. It combines renewable and backup power sources, ensuring operational efficiency and sustainability in mining.

Future Implications: With this milestone, SANY paves the way for similar green energy projects, potentially setting the standard for Africa’s mining sector. If scaled, such projects could drastically transform the continent’s renewable energy landscape.
