Zambia, Solarcentury Ink 67MW Solar Deal

Key Figures & Findings: Solarcentury Africa and Zambia’s Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) have signed an agreement to develop a 67 MWp solar plant in Chisamba, Central Province. The project will connect to ZESCO’s national grid, addressing Zambia’s power shortages. IDC has secured land and conducted feasibility studies, while Solarcentury will lead project development, financing, and execution. This follows Solarcentury’s recent completion of 25 MW in Kanona and its broader plan to install 500 MW of solar capacity in Southern Africa.
Statistics & Insights: The project will generate 67 MWp of solar power, primarily for industrial consumers, helping mitigate Zambia’s energy deficit. Solarcentury’s previous 100 MW Kanona project is set for commissioning in Q2 2025.
Future Implications: Once completed, the plant could enhance Zambia’s industrial productivity while aligning with the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) to diversify the energy mix. If successful, similar public-private solar initiatives could scale across the region.
